Urvashi Cinemas

This is one of the few remaining single-screen theatres in Bangalore. It hosts almost all newly released movies and makes upto 6 shows in a day.

How to get there - It is located near Lalbagh main gate. The way in and out is riddled with one-ways. If you are coming from MG road/Town Hall direction, you will find it on the right side just before you reach the Lalbagh main gate junction. If you are coming from the Jayanagar side then you will have to take a more circutous route though JC Road. With these landmarks and a map you should be able to find it.

Whats good - The ticket prices are very light on your pocket. If you are still in college then this is the place to go. Almost all new movies make it this theatre. the more hyped and potential blockbuster hits English , Hindi, Kannada, Telugu , Tamil. Most of the time tickets are available without prior bookings. Except of course Aamir khan , Shah Rukh Khan or even James Cameroon movies! They have 3D projection now and you need not pay any deposit amount to get the 3D glasses.BookMyShow promotions also happen here. So if you are in the neighbourhood then you can check out if they have any free screenings of movies.

Whats Not - The sound quality is low. The 3D glasses are very heavy and you get tired pretty soon. If you are multiplex buff then this is not the place to be. They have options of balcony and first-class seats only. be careful not to book the absolute front seats in the balcony. You will only see the railing if you sit there.

Interesting trivia - Did you know that Urvashi Cinema was built on one of the 200 yr old lake-bund of Bangalore? Yes, Dr Suresh Moona, one of the notable historians of Bangalore has found this evidence. There are inscriptions on the side of the walls of the compound. You can check them out and be a part of Bangalore heritage.
